Scar Treatment

Scar Treatment

Make scars a thing of the past.

Scars are produced by the natural biological healing process after an injury to the deeper layer of the skin, the dermis. The healing process results in an altered formation of collagen fibers which are cross-linked as opposed to the normal basketweave formation. The appearance of scars can differ due to the nature of the trauma, anatomical location of the wound and genetic factors.

What scar treatments are available?

For scar treatment we recommend one or a combination of the following:

    • Fraxel laser Treatment
    • PRP Therapy
    • Dermal Fillers
    • Chemical Peels

Why Choose Illuminate for Scar Treatment?

All treatments are performed by our fully qualified staff. Initially each patient gets a full medical consultation to discuss the health of their skin and their suitability for the procedure. Our professional trained staff then advises on the most appropriate treatment to breakdown and remove old scar tissue and stimulate the repair and regeneration of new skin.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) for scarring

PRP therapy is a form of regenerative medicine that utilises your own blood, where the platelet rich plasma component is extracted, concentrated and then reintroduced into your body into the scarred area. The PRP activates growth factors causing skin regeneration, tissue repair and collagen production.

      • Stimulation of new collagen production
      • Induction of stem cell division and differentiation
      • Formation of new blood vessels in the skin
      • Little to no risk of allergy or infections as we are essentially using your own by-product*
Dermal Filler

Dermal Fillers are clear, biodegradable gels based on substances naturally occurring in the human body. Because they are naturally found in the body’s own collagen, Dermal Fillers are well tolerated and there is no need for allergy testing*. For depressed scars a dermal filler is injected under the scar to lift the depression in the skin surface. The result is seen immediately improving the appearance of the skin and scar*.

        • Fillers generally last between 12-24 months
        • Dermal fillers are compatible will all skin types
        • One of the most well tolerated procedures in acne scar revision
Chemical peels

A Chemical Peel is a procedure in which chemical agents are applied to skin to treat certain skin conditions.

If medium to strong peels are performed with exfoliation, the outer layers of the skin produce fresh new skin cells which results in a near-permanent improvement in scarring.

        • Removes acne and acne scarring*
        • Gives a fresh, smoother feeling skin even skin tone*
