Fraxel Laser

Fraxel Laser

Reverse the ageing process.

If you want to have a beautiful, more youthful look, then Fraxel laser is for you. Fraxel is the worldwide leading brand of fractional lasers for cosmetic rejuvenation.

At Illuminate Cosmetic Medicine we have access to two different types of Fraxel lasers, enabling our team to correct a wide range of skin problems and dramatically improve skin appearance, beauty and visible signs of ageing.

What is Fraxel Laser?

Fraxel laser treatment harnesses fractional laser resurfacing technology to uniquely target two key skin complaints:

  1. Discolouration to your skin caused through wear and tear in the sun, pigmentation or age spots.
  2. Fine lines, wrinkles, or a lifeless complexion created by poor skin condition or the natural ageing process that depletes your natural reserves of collagen.

When applied to your skin, microscopic columns of laser energy penetrate a proportion (fraction) of the skin. This laser energy is absorbed by water molecules in the skin and converted to heat producing tiny areas of thermal coagulation called microscopic thermal zones (MTZ). These stimulate your own natural healing process, prompting your body to replace old and damaged cells, reduce scarring (such as acne scars) and collagen with new healthy cells and remodelled collagen. Fraxel essentially kick-starts your own body to replace old with new.

The fractionated nature of the laser leaves areas of normal (uninjured) skin between the zones of thermal injury, resulting in faster healing. The safety profile of the laser is also greatly improved, allowing treatment of many skin types including darker skin. The depth, coverage and intensity of the Fraxel laser are all controlled by Dr Adam and his team based on your specific needs and skin type.

Fraxel can Solve 7 Problems of Facial Ageing

Fraxel lasers have proven themselves repeatedly in treating patients with a wide range of skin complaints. In as little asone week, patients who visit Illuminate for laser treatments start noticing*:

  1. Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.
  2. Tightening of facial and neck skin.
  3. Improved skin texture.
  4. Elimination of unwanted pigmentation.
  5. Reduction of pore size.
  6. Clearance of precancerous sunspots (actinic keratosis).
  7. Improvement in scars (e.g. acne scarring and stretch marks).
What does the procedure involve?
  • The patient arrives in our clinic
  • A topical anaesthetic will be applied for 1 hour prior to the procedure with a special wrap.
  • The patient’s face will be cleaned and the treatment will take place. The treatment will take about half an hour to 45 minutes.
  • The Fraxel laser is passed over the client’s treated area.

Though uncommon, this process can sometimes cause mild discomfort. If this is the case we do offer , ‘happy gas’ though find it rare for clients to request it.

Illuminate has the very latest versions of the Fraxel Lasers. All our staff have been highly trained and are experts in skin rejuvenation using the Fraxel Laser.

One has a wavelength of 1550nm and the other 1927nm, each best suited to treating different skin concerns:

  • 1550 is deeply penetrating and is sometimes termed non-ablative fractional resurfacing of the skin. It is used for treating scars, stretch marks, lines and wrinkles, and improving skin tone.
  • 1927 is more superficial and concentrated at the skin surface. It is used for treating sun-damaged skin, sunspots, pigmentation, age spots, enlarged pores and fine lines.
